China landslide, more than 100 buried

A landslide in China’s Sichuan province (southwest China) smashed through around 40 homes, affecting a good portion of the village of Xinmo. Around 100 people are assumed to be buried in the rubble and mud. The side of the collapsed mountain even blocked a two kilometer stretch of a river.

The part of the mountain that collapsed was in the Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba.

Landslides are frequent in China at times of heavy rains.

In January, around 12 people were killed when a landslide smashed a hotel in central Hubei province.

Please pray that all the people are recovered safely from under the rubble, and for those who have died, please pray for peace for them.

If landslides are that frequent, why not build needed counter-measures on slopes that lie near villages. But I suppose that too would be a difficult and unsure process.
